Over the past year, our President, Peggy Frizzo, has worked tirelessly to ensure our transition into the newly combined Society Technical Communication, Michigan Great Lakes chapter was successful. Among her many tasks, she hosted programs, virtual coffee meetups, worked on the website, and improved process flows by streamlining work.

We are so grateful for all that she’s done for our chapter!

So that you can get to know her better, Peggy recently took some time to share information about herself, her job, and her experience as an STC member. Keep reading to learn more!

Tell us about yourself

I have a Bachelor of Science degree in English from Ball State University.
I’ve been a member of STC for 22 years. I volunteered with organizing and judging in the chapter-level competition for many years and volunteered with the society-level competition for two years. I was president of the West Michigan Shores chapter the last several years and arranged the chapter Meetups. I currently serve as president for the Michigan Great Lakes chapter.

Why did you decide to join STC?

My employer offered to pay for the membership, and it seemed like a good idea. It was!

Why did you decide to pursue technical communication as a career?

I didn’t know what career I was headed for when I earned my English degree, I’ve just been incredibly lucky to end up where I am.

Where do you work?

I work at Dematic in Grand Rapids.

What are your job activities?

I manage a great team of software technical writers and do some technical writing. I like problem solving, both by developing effective processes in the workplace and developing documentation that solves problems for our internal and external customers. I love to analyze and then organize!

How has being an STC member helped you with your career?

Being involved in STC has helped me stay current with my skills and aware of changing trends.

What advice do you have for students as they are entering the field of technical communication?

Pay attention to detail, take pride in your work, and always seek opportunities to learn and grow.

What else would you like our readers to know about you?

In addition to a husband and two daughters, I have two Weimaraners, Carly and Lucy. I like to garden, do home improvement projects, and go on nature walks.
